Run For The Kids

It’s nearly that time of year again – Easter!

For most children, this signifies the arrival of the Easter Bunny and Easter egg hunts. But for The Royal Children’s Hospital, and the thousands of lives it transforms and helps each year, Easter stands for a lot more than chocolate – it means it’s time for the Good Friday Appeal.

What is the Good Friday Appeal?

The Good Friday Appeal was started in 1931 by The Herald and Weekly Times solely for the purpose of raising money for The Royal Children’s Hospital. Since its inception, the Appeal has raised over $226 million for medical equipment and life-saving technology, research funding, scholarships* and helping families in their time of need. The money donated from the Good Friday Appeal represents 41% of donated funds to The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.**

Run for the Kids began in 2005 and, in that time, has raised over $4.7 million for the Good Friday Appeal. It goes without saying that with this cause so close to my heart, here at Positive Training, we have put together our own team of 22 heroes. Our team has divided up to run both the 14.38km course and the 5.2km course on the 1st of April 2012 with the goal of raising $10,000! Go team!

We need your help

Despite all the gallant annual fundraising efforts, The Royal Children’s Hospital – and its patients – still need your help to raise further funds to support their tireless research and development efforts, continue to help the families of sick children and ensure they have the latest and most innovative life-saving equipment.

The best part is it doesn’t matter who you are: old, young, rich or not-rich-yet – you can contribute. With two courses to choose from you can run, walk or shuffle your way to raising money for this wonderful cause.

Our inspiration

The Royal Children’s Hospital has been vital in helping not only save the life of our son Matthew, but providing on-going advice and support. Matthew, who has both cerebral palsy and epilepsy, continues to be a patient of The Royal Children’s Hospital and they have provided us with advice and essential services from dental, equipment, medications, specialised programs to surgeries.  We really don’t know where we would be without them and their team of understanding and specialised staff.

You can never be sure when someone you know and love is going to need the services of The Royal Children’s Hospital but you’d like to know they are getting the best possible care.

Perfect excuse for a team building exercise

Doing things together as a group is great for morale and team building. The bonds you form through challenges and working towards a common goal can create trust and strength within your team. So get your staff together and set up your own Run for the Kids team. Not only will it boost morale and confidence, but it’s for a great cause and that’s always nutritious for the soul!

Set up your own team fundraising page.

Running not your thing? You can volunteer or if you’re pressed for time but you’d still like to help, go to our fundraising page to make a donation. Every little bit helps!
